UFC Lightweight Fighter Arrested Reported By

UFC Lightweight fighter Din Thomas was arrested for allegedly organization "illegal cage fighting" matches, the Palm Beach Post said on Wednesday.
Police say that Thomas, 31, allegedly violated a Florida state statute that regulates "prohibited competitions." The UFC competitor and The Ultimate Fighter 4 contestant supposedly promoted and organized unsanctioned fights out of a warehouse in St. Lucie West.
The fights drew more than one hundred fifty spectators, the report said.
Sgt. Frank Sabol said that authorities investigated the situation on a citizen's tip.
"I was approached by a citizen, and he asked, 'What are the police doing about the fight club out in St. Lucie West?''" said Sabol.
Thomas, who teaches MMA in edition to fighting on his own, maintains that he organized the event as a means to give his students experience in front of a crowd.
The police report says Thomas told the officer, "they were only sparring like they do in class except in front of a crowd."
The Florida statute prohibits amateur fights that are not properly sanctioned. Violating the statue constitutes a third-degree felony with a maximum jail sentence of five years.
