UFC Makes Decision Regarding Sherk Reported By

Though a final California State Athletic Commission ruling on Sean Sherk's status following a positive steroid test is pending, UFC has already made a decision regarding the future of Sherk's Lightweight Championship.
Dana White confirmed Friday that Sherk will not be required to forfeit the belt he won at UFC 64, according to a story at Yahoo! Sports. White reportedly made his decision in response to frustration with the CSAC's handling of Sherk's case.
"The way this whole thing has been handled has been a mess," said White, who had previously maintained that Sherk would be stripped of the belt if the commission ruled to suspend the fighter.
But White will not allow the Sherk hold-up to put UFC's Lightweight division on hold. Yahoo! Sports further noted that White announced plans to book BJ Penn against Joe Stevenson in fight at UFC 80. The winner will be awarded an interim Lightweight Championship; that belt will later be merged with Sherk's belt in a unification bout.
White also confirmed Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Fabricio Werdum for UFC 80. UFC 80 will emanate from Newcastle, England in January.
