Sokoudjou vs. Lyoto Machida Light Heavyweight Fight
Round One: Here we go! Machida makes the first move with a left hand; Sokoudjou fires back with a kick and then a big right hand. He clinches up with Machida and takes him down, but Machida sweeps and gets on top. He's in Sokoudjou's half guard.
Machida's doing very little, but Sokoudjou appears only capable of powering Machida off (which isn't working), rather than using technique to get out of the bad spot. Machida remains on top and starts going for a kimura as the fight's second minute passes.
He lets go of the kimura and delivers a punch and elbow. He throws a little bit more, but he's not doing too much to advance his position. Nonetheless, Sokoudjou isn't doing much to get out of the spot.
Sokoudjou tries for a guillotine, but it lasts for about five seconds before Lyoto gets out. The referee finally stands things up.
Machida tries for a straight left, but he misses. Bodykick from Machida. Leg kick from Machida. Sokoudjou pushes Machida into the cage and gets a takedown. Machida pops right back up and delivers a knee to Sokoudjou's stomach. They clinch up as the round ends. No sign of the Sokoudjou who dominated Nogueira and Arona in PRIDE, and it's definitely a Machida round.
Round Two: Big high kick from Machida; Sokoudjou gets his hand in the way, but it definitely caused some impact. Leg kick from Machida. Sokoudjou charges forward with a big kick that misses. He then throws a right hand.
Sokoudjou charges in with another right hand, but it doesn't really connect. Weak leg kick from Sokoudjou, followed by a missed high kick. Kick to Sokoudjou's face.
Another high kick from Machida.
Sokoudjou charges in, and gets caught with a big counter strike from Machida. Machida brings the action to the ground with pounding, but he cannot finish Sokoudjou. He's still doing great damage in half guard.
Machida sets up an arm triangle on Sokoudjou, Sokoudjou shakes out, but he's still on his back getting shots. Machida moves to mount and sets up another arm triangle. Sokoudjou pops out, but he cannot reverse position and is still pinned on his back. A big elbow from Machida, who's in half guard.
Machida locks in the arm triangle and pops to the side, securing it very deeply. Sokoudjou is put to sleep.
Lyoto Machida won via submission (arm triangle choke) at 4:20 of Round Two.
