Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva
Light Heavyweight Fight


Round One:
And, we're off! Liddell opens with a soft leg kick. Another leg kick from Liddell. The crowd is totally behind Chuck.

Silva puts his hands down to taunt Liddell, but it doesn't really work. Liddell moves in and Silva opens with some hands, but they don't really land. Liddell moves forward again, this time getting a bit of glove in his face.

Liddell connects with a jab, and then circles around. Silva misses with a left hand, but scores with a solid leg kick. Right hand for Liddell. Silva backs up, but answers with some shots as Liddell moves in. They start trading against the cage, but neither man gains a true advantage.

They start circling back up, and it's Chuck pushing the pace. Liddell misses with a wild right hand, but he regains composure before Silva can answer. Leg kick from Silva back in the middle of the ring.

Chuck goes for a high kick; Silva counters with a punch to Liddell's head. He goes for another right hand that just misses. Leg kick from Silva in the middle of the Octagon.

One-two combination from Liddell, but he misses on a charge attempt. He tries to engage again, and Silva out-times him, scoring with his own combination instead. Silva counters a Liddell jab with a wide right hand.

Right hand from Liddell. Liddell delivers a right hand to Silva's jaw, but he misses on a subsequent haymaker attempt. The two trade blows yet again.

Leg kick from Liddell. The round ends, likely in Liddell's favor, but it's hard to say someone's "winning" at this point.

Round Two:
Silva lets loose at the onset of the round, but Liddell dodges much of the attack. Straight right hand from Liddell; he then circles away.

Liddell misses on a left hook as they continue circling; it appears Silva is now controlling the movement in the Octagon. Silva counters a Liddell miss with a combination.

He moves forward and catches Liddell on the chin with a right hand. Liddell answers with a straight right hand to break a epriod of monotony.

Chuck goes for a kick and slips, but he pops back up before Silva can take advantage. Silva finds his range a bit on a punch that catches Liddell right in the nose. Liddell slips down again after taking a right hand to the jaw, but Silva's not willing to risk an engagement.

Big jab by Liddell, but Silva responds with a left hook. Chuck's back to stalking. He catches Silva with a left hand and then pushes forward with a clinch. Silva is busted open as Chuck goes crazy with punches from the corner. He hits an elbow, but Silva fires back with some of his signature looping punches. They're trading viciously in the corner, and finally bring the action back to the middle.

Silva connects with a right hand on a counter shot. He opens up with a flurry on Chuck, but Chuck weathers it and goes right to work on Silva. He cracks Silva with a series of punches, one of which causes Silva to buckle, but he can't finish. Silva responds with some punches, and Liddell drops down to take Silva to the mat. That's where the round ends. A fantastic final minute to end a round that should once again fall in Liddell's favor.

Round Three:
Liddell shoots right in for a takedown and gets it. Silva forces Liddell right off, however, and they're back to their feet. Leg kick from Silva, but Liddell blocks a subsequent high kick attempt.

Big overhand right from Liddell, followed by a counterjab on a Silva charge. Silva misses on a leg kick, and Liddell follows with some punches; Silva counters with a left hand.

Jab from Liddell. Fadeaway right hand from Chuck Liddell. Silva's keeping his position firm, but Liddell answers that with a spinning backfist. He rocks Silva with another shot and then forces him towards the cage. Silva's trying to fire back from counter, but Liddell's clearly getting the better of him in this crazy punch exchange. Liddell steps away from the cage, causing the action to move back into the center.

Liddell walks right up to Silva and connects with a jab. Silva then pushes forward with a jab of his own. Overhand right from Liddell as Silva gets forced into the cage. Liddell gets the better of Silva in another brief punch exchange, but Silva clocks Liddell in the separation as they move back towards the center.

Silva connects with a left hand as we enter the fight's final minute. Another jab lands for Silva, as he stalks his prey. Liddell answers with a right-handed counter blow to Silva, who seems unable to find a chance to open up. Liddell takes Silva down, with ease, as the final fifteen seconds approach. Chuck finishes with some ground and pound as the fight ends. Should be a Liddell victory, likely 30-27.

Chuck Liddell won via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27).
