UFC announced Monday that a torn hamstring has sidelined Chuck Liddell and forced him to withdraw from a scheduled bout with Rashad Evans.
The match, which was to headline UFC 85, was to give Liddell a chance to continue his winning ways against the undefeated Evans while simultaneously giving Evans a chance to prove he belongs in the Light Heavyweight title picture.
"Unfortunately, Chuck Liddell tore his right hamstring during training last week, and being the warrior that he is, he still wanted to fight, which is the reason why everyone in the world loves him," said Dana White, UFC president. "But I wouldn't let anyone fight with his leg looking that way. Let him heal and come back and fight when he is 100 percent."
UFC said that it will announce a new main event for the London show shortly. WrestlingObserver.com reported that James Irvin is on a short list of names that was contacted to substitute for Liddell in the Evans bout, although it was not immediately clear if the replacement bout will still serve as the main event.
The Observer also said that two fights will be added to the card, which would give the show a hefty thirteen bouts.
